Not Another Catwalk – Animation Creating Headlines for Menswear

The production and imagination involved in creating a set design for a fashion catwalk is a challenging job. More and more fashion houses are employing skills used in theatre or the music industry to capture and retain the attention of audiences.

Inspirational Catwalks
Look at this Pinterest board called Set Design from Jean-Paul Haure board for inspiration.

Many of the more outlandish or “talked about” shows are those from Haute Couture houses like Dior or CoCo Channel and feature woman’s collections. Simon Costing – Facebook page is notorious for creating dramatic catwalk sets: and has designed sets for the like of McQueen & Givenchy. You can view more of his work by clicking on this link to Simon Costin

Catwalks featuring Men’s collections are becoming more newsworthy. Last year, I featured Alexander Wang’s catwalk: where he transformed an indoor track and field stadium for his active wear collaboration with H&M. (see my You Tube Channel for the video)

Menswear are Testing the Boundaries and Creating Headlines
SS2016 catwalks have entertained through music (Saint Laurent with SurfSound style) and Drama with stars (Moschino’s Baroque Catwalk in Florence with their New face of fashion, Katy Perry). This article as about a menswear collection which is making headlines and pushing the boundaries. It is a Men’s Catwalk, but not as you know it and, it’s animated.

Universal Works have produces an animated video for the SS16 Men’s wear London College Collection. It is SUPERB – entertaining and light hearted.

What do you Think?
Have a look for yourself by watching the “Not Another Catwalk” video now:

In this entertaining take on a catwalk, I found myself guessing what sport/mode of transport they were using in Chapter 2, and got behind each character in the battle against the fan scene in Chapter 3.

The humour involved in Chapter 2 (1minute:58seconds) when the mischievous model pushes the button, is deliciously fun.

I love that menswear is earning their place in the high stakes of the Catwalk. All the hard work of Universal should be shouted about, so do your bit for fashion and vote in the poll above, share this article everywhere, like it on Facebook and subscribe to the Talking Men’s Shoes Blog now.

Do it, and do it now. For the love of fashion.
